38 weeks ... and our little dude's arrival

levi blog

So, I totally expected to be one of those 41 weeks and still pregnant ladies. But our little dude had other plans! He decided to make an early appearance into the world at 38 weeks. Birthing was one of the most powerful experiences of my life, and I'm so grateful that I was supported by Hubby, my mother, our doula, and our midwife. I still get emotional thinking about how it was up to me to labor and push and finally deliver this little person into the world. Although my delivery didn't go quite as I planned, at the end of it all this tiny little perfect person was placed on my chest and the first words out of my mouth to Hubby were "he's just so beautiful".

He's two weeks old now, and I've already had a few meltdowns about how he's growing up so fast. I'm working to savor every moment I have with him, even if it's at 3am and I'm exhausted. Oh, and cluster feedings? They are no joke. Hubby has become quite the expert swaddler and diaper changer - also rocking it out at 3am. I'm impressed!

Here are a few photos from birthing day and the last two weeks that our Levi has been in the world.

Paul McCartney Show

Monday night Hubby and I celebrated my birthday by seeing Paul McCartney play Wrigley Field. This may be a bit dramatic but, it was a concert of a lifetime. Say what you will about Paul, the man is an incredibly talented musician. He played an incredible show with most of my favorite songs. It was an incredible show, and I'm so thankful that I was able to go. These are just a few photos of our evening. I will definitely remember this for the rest of my life!

28 Years and a Sprinkles Cupcake

Twenty-eight years.  Twenty-eight years wiser? We'll see.

This year for my birthday I demanded to see Paul McCartney in concert for my birthday present from Hubby. He graciously met my demands. In lieu of a party this year I opted for a low key day spending time with Hubby, family, and relaxing. We biked to the newly opened Sprinkles downtown that I've been dying to try. I opted for a classic chocolate cupcake; Hubby opted for a peanut butter one {of course, because the man loves his peanut butter}. Both of our cupcakes were delicious. For dinner, we ate at one of my favorite Thai places in the City: Joy's Noodles in Lakeview.

My parents gifted me a new bike basket for my bike. They oh-so-coincidentally picked out the exact bike basket that I emailed to Hubby {hint, hint} a Peterboro woven bike basket. Apparently requesting a bike accessory for your birthday at twenty-eight can be a source of humor for parents. They gently pointed out that said basket would have also been an appropriate gift for my tenth birthday. Who knew?

I'm thankful for another year of life. I'm thankful for another year that I can spend learning, un-learning, and growing old{er} with my lovah.

birthday boy

tuesday was husby's birthday. this year he wanted to celebrate: just the two of us. per hubby's birthday requests, we commenced the evening with a pre-dinner run (yes, a run!), sushi for dinner, and finished the evening with cupcakes from our favorite local cupcakery. although i am not a fan of raw fish, i was able to order vegetable sushi rolls (veggie tempura to be precise) and of course, steamed edamame! i love edamame! so yummy.

here are a few photos of the evening. no photos of the run. that would just be wrong.

xoxo

ps. i just have to comment on how handsome the birthday boy is! swoon!
