Have you heard Florence + The Machine's newest album "Ceremonials"? I'm in love her voice and the complexity of her music. See my favorite performance here.
Here's a video of one of my favorite tunes from the new album. I could not find a video for my most favorite "Never Let Me Go", but if you're a Spotify member give it a listen. It's, well, brilliant.

Inspired Tuesday: Tunes
One of my favorite things about Pandora is the discovery of new artists that possess similarities to each other. Music has always evoked such emotion: be it through a complex harmonies and rhythm, or lyrics. Hubby and I had a recent conversation about my connection to certain artists and genres {most of which he labels "sad" music}, and I realized it's just always been my way to connect with myself and with my emotions. I could go on, and on, and on about my favorite movements but I won't bore you.
Most mornings, I start my day with Pandora on my commute and am constantly pausing the songs to scribble down the name of new artists. Sometimes I share my favorite tune of the morning {as tweeted above}. Here are a few little videos of two of my current loves {not new loves, just favorite loves!}.

Inspired Tuesday: Bell X1
For this installation of Inspired Tuesday I bring to you one of my current music crushes: Bell X1. I know they're not a "new" band on the music circuit, but this song simply rocks my socks. I love the lyrics and their overall vibe.
Enjoy!

Inspired Tuesday: Almost Famous
This is a scene from one of my most favorite films. I have loved this song for as long as I can remember, though I wasn't able to admit it in public until recently. There's just something about this scene that inspires me to enjoy life. Does that make any sense? Maybe you feel the same.

in this twilight
{florence and the machine - cosmic love | live on KEXP}
my little trick to make the bleak days better is to listen and look for beauty. sometimes it's enough to get me through the day. her voice is simply one of the most beautiful i've ever heard. after watching this performance (maybe half a dozen times ... but who's counting?) i always feel better.

do you ever have days where you feel un-inspired/un-motivated? today was one of those days. a day where i had to convince myself it was worth my energy to get dressed for the day. pathetic.

it was not your fault but mine
so, i've been mia on my album/artist of the month post.
lucky for you i've fallen head over heels for a british boy band across the atlantic.
well, they're british, and they're boys... you get the idea.
mumford & sons
a mix of bluegrass/folk music with a strong lyrical wit. not only are they brilliant musicians, but the incorporation of various instruments & musical styles are truly inventive.
give them a listen.
my favorite picks from their newest album sign no more:
little lion man & after the storm.

but in the end the only steps that matter are the ones you take all by yourself
...so i failed at the monthly music post in february.
so i guess i will just have to have two music posts for march.
instead of selecting two entire albums
(it's really difficult for me to love an entire album, actually),
i thought to select an artist and an album. smart, eh?
introducing...THE WEEPIES: deb talan & steve tannen.

their music is folky (naturally) and harmonic,
with a strong element of lyrical talent.
their music truly calms & speaks to my soul.
equally as charming is the fact that they are a married couple.
my top picks for a good snapshot of their brilliance:
"and the world spins madly on" and "can't go back now"
hope you enjoy them as much as i do.

i think you're a contra
i decided to have one topical post per month.
so, here is the first of twelve "album of the month" posts for 2010!
one of the biggest influences on my life has been music.
i often wish that my life was a musical. music for me has always been a way for me to express my emotions: certain songs spark vivid memories of my child and teenage years.
i go through the occasional like for popular music,
but i always circle back to my roots: indie rock.
naturally, my album of the month pick reflects this:
so for january i have chosen vampire weekend's contra.
i love this album, and simply can't get enough of it.
brilliant lyrics, complex rhythms, and sophisticated melodies.
perfection.
